Today dashboard
The Today page is the first thing patients see when they log in to the Patient Portal. It answers the most immediate question: "What do I need to do today?" The page shows the current date, all evaluations that are due, and a preview of upcoming scheduled assessments — giving patients a clear picture of their responsibilities without any extra navigation.
Today's evaluations
The top section displays evaluation cards for every assessment that's due today. Each card shows the evaluation name, the healthcare provider who assigned it, and the daily frequency (how many times the patient is expected to complete it today — once, twice, three times, or four times a day).
Numbered requests
Within each evaluation card, numbered rows (#1, #2, #3, etc.) represent individual completion slots for the day. The number of slots matches the daily frequency — a "Once a Day" evaluation shows one slot, while a "Four Times a Day" evaluation shows four. The first uncompleted slot shows an orange Due badge, indicating it's ready to be filled. As the patient completes each slot, a checkbox marks it done.
Clicking a numbered row opens the evaluation player for that assessment. The patient answers the questions, submits their result, and returns to the Today page where the completed slot is checked off.
Instructions
Some evaluations include provider-written instructions — guidance that appears alongside the evaluation card. When instructions are present, an Instructions button appears on the card. Clicking it opens a dialog showing the instruction text (for example, "Please complete this once a day for the next 4 weeks") along with a View Schedule link that takes the patient to the schedule details.
Card actions
Each evaluation card has three actions at the bottom:
+ New creates an additional completion beyond the daily frequency. This is useful when a patient wants to record an extra data point — for example, if their symptoms change significantly between scheduled completions.
Skip marks the remaining requests for this evaluation as skipped for today. Use this when the patient can't complete the assessment (perhaps they're feeling too unwell or the evaluation isn't relevant today).
Three-dot menu opens schedule details for the evaluation, providing the same information accessible from the Schedules page.
Upcoming schedules
Below the evaluation cards, the Upcoming section lists all scheduled assessments with their next occurrence date, total completions so far, and end condition. This gives patients visibility into what's coming without needing to navigate to the Schedules page.
Each row shows the evaluation name, the provider name, the repeat frequency (for example, "Repeats every day"), the next due date, the total number of results submitted, and when the schedule ends ("Never" for indefinite schedules, or a specific date).
Checking off completed evaluations
As patients complete evaluations, the corresponding checkbox on the Today card is marked. This provides immediate visual feedback — the patient can see at a glance how many of today's assessments they've finished and how many remain. For evaluations with multiple daily slots (like "Four Times a Day"), each slot is tracked independently, so the patient always knows their exact progress.
If all slots for an evaluation are completed, the card remains visible for the rest of the day but with all items checked off. The next day, the card resets with fresh unchecked slots for the new day's assessments.
Empty states
When there are no evaluations due today, the Today page shows a message indicating there's nothing to complete. Patients with no active schedules at all see guidance explaining that assessments are assigned by healthcare providers — the patient doesn't need to take any action to set up schedules.
This empty state is common for new patients whose providers haven't yet configured evaluation schedules. Once a clinician creates a schedule for the patient, the Today page automatically populates with evaluation cards on the appropriate dates.
Navigation
The Today page is always accessible from the Today link in the left sidebar. It's also the default landing page after login — patients are redirected here automatically when they sign in. If a patient navigates away to check results or review schedules, they can always return to Today to see what still needs their attention for the current day.
